Vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) is a water-soluble vitamin that is important for normal brain development and keeping the nervous and immune systems healthy. It may help increase energy levels as it helps with making red blood cells and antibodies. Food sources of vitamin B-6 include poultry, beef, fish, organ meats, potatoes, chickpeas, bananas, and fortified cereals. Vitamin B-6 can also be taken as an oral supplement. A vitamin B-6 deficiency is usually coupled with other B vitamin deficiencies, such as folic acid (vitamin B-9) and vitamin B-12. Some signs of vitamin B6 deficiency include microcytic anemia, depression, lower immunity, and confusion.
